Eco House Transformation

The approach

At MLA Architecture & Development, we embarked on a captivating project where our clients envisioned a rural cottage transformed into a contemporary eco-house, embracing the expansive vistas of the open countryside.

Our innovative approach involved the addition of a sleek lightweight first-floor extension, seamlessly integrated with the existing structure. This addition became the canvas for a spacious, modern open-plan living area, adorned with expansive glazing. Positioned strategically, these windows frame the breathtaking views, inviting the natural beauty indoors.

On the ground level, the eco-house unfolds with elegantly designed bedrooms, each boasting private terraces to the south, inviting the outdoors in.

Environmental consciousness guided our strategies: a solar PV south-facing roof plane, air-source heat pumps, harnessing solar gain in the thermal mass of the first-floor plate, greywater harvesting, a flourishing wildflower meadow, passive house airtightness and insulating values, triple glazing, and smart house controls, all harmoniously coalesce to elevate the eco-friendly quotient of this dwelling.

The result? A harmonious blend of contemporary living and ecological mindfulness, encapsulated in a dwelling that not only captivates the eye but also speaks to the heart of sustainable living.
